Dr. Andreas Fath (55) has been Professor of Physical Chemistry and Analytics at Furtwangen University since 2011. Before that, he worked in the industrial sector for eleven years, dealing with chemical developments and applied surface technologies. His main research interests are in the areas of water / wastewater and plastics. In 2010 he was awarded the Fraunhofer Society's UMSICHT Science Prize for the invention of a process to reduce perfluorinated surfactants (PFT) in wastewater. Andreas Fath caused an international stir in 2014and 2017 with his projects “Rheines Wasser” and „Tennesswim“ when he swam across the Rhine and the Tennessee river from the source to the estuary and at the same time scientifically examined both river waters. Furthermore, Andreas Fath is the author of the textbook "Microplastics", which was published in 2019 by publishing company Springer Spektrum.
